Resurgent Medvedev Wins First Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev secured his first title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's initial championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since March of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, supported by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional title, gained dominance to push for a third set.

He rescued four early chances in a close third set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured victory with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
