PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
